If you have wandered through the Play Area in recent weeks you will notice that work has now been completed on the first of the Village Appearance project sites. During the mornings of March 10th and 17th, members of the group, together with volunteers, prepared the designated plot in the Play Area and planted five different varieties of hedging plants. On both days we had the benefit of fine weather which meant that digging and planting were completed fairly quickly. The ages of the volunteers ranged from the ‘elderly’ to toddlers, who arrived not only wearing trendy wellingtons, but in the case of one young lady, had her own tools and wheelbarrow! Three generations of one local family turned up on both occasions reflecting the strong community feeling which exists in HL and will hopefully continue for years to come.
The next project to be tackled is the entrance to the Belfry. To allay any untimely intervention, three options will be made available at an Open Evening on Tuesday June 26th between 6 and 9 o’clock at the Village Hall, when residents will be asked for their comments and to vote for their preference. To ensure that all of High Legh is aware of these next proposed plans, leaflets will be distributed and as usual, details will be available on the Comunity and PC websites.
Chris Johnson John Cope, tel: 01925 754787 e-mail: johncopepcm@btinternet.com Third Village litter Pick Sunday November 6th was a perfect sunny, autumnal day for the third Litter Pick organised by the Village Appearance Group. The photographs show the happy smiling faces of the volunteers from High Legh, assisted by members of staff from McDonalds. Starting at one o’clock the litter pickers managed to collect nearly fifty bags of rubbish, including tyres, pots of paint, plumbing debris and a watering can! As a well earned ‘thank you’, the stalwart pickers of all ages enjoyed tea and homemade cakes in the Village Hall Meeting Room. Once again, the Village Appearance Group has worked closely with McDonalds to organise this event. They kindly provided the posters, the advert in the Newsletter, the equipment, the manpower and for the removal of the rubbish. It is interesting to note that all of this rubbish will be recycled by McDonalds as part of their eco-friendly campaign.
Our next Litter Pick will be in the spring, although the A50 will be regularly cleared by staff from McDonalds as part of their normal route. The Village Appearance Group would welcome any help with this event as the old adage certainly rings true in that ‘many hands make light work'. Please contact Chris if you would like to know more about the VAG work.
